Milan wouldn't swap Gattuso
Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti would not swap Gennaro Gattuso for Roy Keane.
Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti says he would never swap Gennaro Gattuso for Manchester United's Roy Keane.
The combative former Rangers midfielder has been linked with a move to Old Trafford to become a long-term replacement for United skipper Keane, whose latest hopes of playing in a UEFA Champions League final were ended in Milan on Tuesday.
Gattuso expressed an admiration for The Red Devils in a newspaper interview on Sunday, only to quickly retract that sentiment, and there seems little chance of the Rossoneri wanting to off-load their tenacious tackler.
There was never any suggestion that the Italy international would be swapped for Irish veteran Keane but Ancelotti knows which player he would prefer in his side.
"Gattuso's spirit would perfectly adapt to English football,"said Ancelotti.
"But be calm because we would never propose to him or Manchester an exchange for Keane."
The 27-year-old hails Walter Smith as the greatest influence on his career and that might be where the talk regarding United has started because Smith spent the end of last season at Old Trafford as Sir Alex Ferguson's number two before accepting the Scotland manager's job.
One moment epitomised Gattuso's significant contribution to his side's 1-0 San Siro victory, when he snapped into a challenge on Gabriel Heinze and then snarled at the Argentinian in a real show of defiance.
