Blues monitor Zambrotta

Chelsea are believed to be keeping tabs on Juventus star Gianluca Zambrotta.

Chelsea are believed to be keeping tabs on Juventus star Gianluca Zambrotta.

The versatile Italian international can play anywhere in midfield and full back, and has established himself as one of the top performers in Serie A over recent years.

The 28-year-old is an instrumental part of the Juve squad and has been ever since his £10 million plus move from Bari in 1999.

Juve will fight to keep Zambrotta, but Chelsea are believed to be considering testing The Bianconeri's resolve with a bid of ‚é¼35 million.

Juve will not want to lose Zambrotta, although they will also realise that this could be the last chance they get to cash in on the Como-born ace.

Zambrotta would no doubt appeal to Chelsea, who have not ruled out a summer midfield swoop - although Liverpool's Steven Gerrard is known to interest coach Jose Mourinho.

A right winger and a left back are also thought to be the other positions high on Mourinho's summer wanted list, with Spanish duo Joaquin and Asier Del Horno current favourites to fill those vacancies - although Zambrotta's versatility could mean he is an ideal signing for the Portuguese tactician.

Juve are also due to recall highly-rated Giorgio Chiellini from his loan spell at Fiorentina and many feel he could be the ideal replacement for Zambrotta - should he depart.
