Sorensen: It's my fault

Aston Villa keeper Thomas Sorensen has held up his hands over his costly mistake.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has held up his hands over his costly mistake in the derby against Birmingham City.

The Denmark international allowed Emile Heskey's tame shot to slip under his body during Sunday's Premiership clash at St Andrews.

Sorensen's howler gave Blues the platform for victory, with Julian Gray netting a late second for the hosts to wrap up the win.

Villa boss David O'Leary refused to single out his keeper for the gaffe which helped Blues to secure the local bragging rights.

But Sorensen admits he has no excuses for the error and would not have been surprised had he been blamed by his manager.

"It's my own fault," Sorensen told BT. "I can't expect to be praised after a match like the one against Birmingham."

Sorensen's error at St Andrews followed on from a mistake he made against Birmingham in the first derby of the season at Villa Park.

His fumbles have sparked talk O'Leary will bring in a new shot-stopper in the summer, something Sorensen is trying not to be concerned about.

"It's not something I think about, you have got to talk to the manager about that," added Sorensen on the rumours.

"In reality, I can't do anything about that.

"I can just work on things and confirm on the pitch that I am still a good keeper as I know I am."
