Horror news for Hinshelwood

Brighton's Adam Hinshelwood faces nine months on the sidelines through injury.

Brighton have been dealt a massive blow with the news defender Adam Hinshelwood does indeed face up to nine months on the sidelines.

The central defender limped out of Monday night's home defeat to Reading in some discomfort.

Initial tests carried out by The Seagulls led them to believe the 21-year-old had only suffered swelling to his knee and might even be fit for next weekend's trip to Coventry.

However, a second series of scans has now revealed the full extent of the damage, and it has been confirmed Hinshelwood has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

"Although the initial thoughts were that the scan was fine, we were concerned about the clinical signs," Brighton physio Malcolm Stuart told the club's official website.

"We therefore got a radiographer who is an expert on reading MRIs to review the scans - not just his current scan, but his previous scans - and he has virtually assured us his anterior cruciate ligament is ruptured."

Hinshelwood now faces reconstructive surgery on his knee, and will not be back in action until the early part of next season.

Brighton boss Mark McGhee has moved to cover the loss of Hinshelwood by taking Millwall defender Joe Dolan on loan.
