Marshall upset with Lions
Goalkeeper Andy Marshall has revealed he is considering his future at Millwall.
Millwall goalkeeper Andy Marshall has revealed he is considering his future at the club. The former Norwich City custodian signed a two-year deal with The Lions after joining permanently from Ipswich Town last summer.
The 29-year-old had a successful loan spell with the South East London club last term, but Marshall feels the unrest between player-manager Dennis Wise and soon-to-be chairman Jeff Burnige is disrupting their play-off push.
The keeper is disillusioned that the club's promises to strengthen the squad this season have not occurred as he would have liked.
"Things that were promised to me, such as investment in players, have not happened," Marshall blasted.
"Everyone was buzzing at the start of the season because we had reached the FA Cup final the previous year.
"I was specifically told things, and some of those things haven't come true, which disappoints me.
"The high we had at the start of the season, when we were playing in the Uefa Cup, has slowly started to deteriorate.
"I'm nearly 30, I'm an experienced player and I know when things are right and when they are wrong.
"I came here because Dennis and Ray (Wilkins) were here, and because they were going to be given a very good opportunity to get us into The Premiership.
"I feel the club has fallen short of that.
"If Dennis and Ray are not going to be here and the club aren't going to be in The Premiership, then I want to be somewhere that can go there - it's quite simple.
"I'm now going towards the back end of my career, and I don't want to be hanging around."
Marshall gave strong indication of his intention following a recent meeting with Burnidge.
"I have spoken to Jeff Burnige, and we'll have to see what develops," he added.
"I understand the club can't be allowed to spiral into debt, but if there are to be drastic changes in the summer, I don't want to be left here while everything alters around me.
"Did he (Burnige) give me an indication of what will happen in the summer? Yes and no. He didn't really answer my questions."
