Betis blast referee

Real Betis have blasted the referee who took charge of their 3-3 draw with Barcelona.

Real Betis have furiously hit out at the performance of the referee who took charge of their 3-3 draw with Barcelona at the weekend.

Los Verdiblancos were left fuming after match official Alfonso Pino Zamorano awarded Barca two penalties and sent off defender David Rivas.

The Catalans stole a point with an equaliser in the fifth minute of injury time at the end of the game, and Betis players and officials alike have been united in their criticism of Pino Zamorano.

"We all make mistakes, but yesterday there were too many for one game and, apart from that, he is a referee who is known to give controversial performances," Edu stated.

"He is an official who does not give decent performances.

"Players are punished by refereeing decisions and yet nothing ever happens to them.

"We are in one of the best leagues in the world and the refereeing must be at the same level."

Striker Ricardo Oliveira, who netted his side's second goal at Camp Nou, added: "I am very sad at what happened.

"It's terrible that things like this happen, but they are continuing to happen in football and I am very upset because we deserved to come away with the three points."

The club have released an official statement condemning the performance of Pino Zamorano, and have also revealed they will be appealing against the dismissal of Rivas - sent off on 13 minutes for fouling Deco in the run-up to Barca's first penalty.
