Hislop delight at Leo arrival

Shaka Hislop has welcomed the appointment of Leo Beenhakker.

Shaka Hislop has welcomed the appointment of Leo Beenhakker as Trinidad & Tobago's new head coach.

The Dutchman, who comes with high credentials, has succeeded Bertille St Clair in charge of the country.

Former Aston Villa and Manchester United boss Ron Atkinson had been set for the post, before a late change opened the door for Beenhakker.

Although Trinidad prop up the North American and Caribbean section of World Cup qualifying, Hislop does not believe all hope is lost.

"It's a fantastic appointment," explained Hislop to TTFF Media. "His resume speaks for itself and he brings the quality that we are looking for from a coach.

"I don't think it [Beenhakker's arrival] has come too late because there is still a lot of hope. Despite the results so far, we can still take a lot from recent games."

Atkinson was critical of Dwight Yorke and Hislop over their part in him not getting the job, but the Portsmouth keeper is not concerning himself with his comments.

"I haven't followed his comments in any type of detail but I am aware that he said that myself and Dwight need to examine our consciences," he added.

"What I can say is that my conscience is clear and I can speak for Dwight and the other players as well."
