Savio to stay at Zaragoza

Real Zaragoza are hopeful that Savio will sign a new contract this week.

Real Zaragoza are hopeful that Brazilian winger Savio will sign a new deal to stay at the club this week.

The former Real Madrid star will be out of contract at the end of the season, but looks likely to extend his stay at the Aragon-based outfit.

Savio joined Zaragoza in the summer of 2003 after leaving Bordeaux and has made a big impression as the club have established themselves back in the Spanish top-flight.

A number of clubs have been monitoring the South American's contractual situation including Espanyol, Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna, but the 31-year-old is set to disappoint them by committing his future to Zaragoza.

"I am optimistic and I believe things are going well, therefore I am calm and hope everything will be sorted out as soon as possible," he stated.

The player's agent Joao Areias is to sit down with the club early this week and an agreement is expected to be announced in the near future.
