Giggs in Cup hope

Ryan Giggs feels he has an outside chance of being fit for the FA Cup semi-final.

Ryan Giggs feels he has an outside chance of being fit for Manchester United's FA Cup semi-final with Newcastle United.

The Wales winger is nursing a hamstring injury which he suffered against Blackburn Rovers at the start of this month.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had rated Giggs as being extremely unlikely to feature against The Magpies on Sunday.

But Giggs has not completely given up hope that he could be fit for the semi-final at The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Giggs is due to return to training later this week and the wide man has not dismissed the notion of playing against Newcastle.

"If all goes to plan I will start training some time during the week," Giggs told MUTV.

"If there are no setbacks we will see what happens but at this stage I honestly don't know."

Should Giggs make a stunning recovery, it would be a major boon for Ferguson, who will definitely be without Louis Saha due to injury.

Giggs is keen to be fit for the semi-final as he admits there is a strong desire on United's part to retain the FA Cup.

He added: "Manchester United have a great tradition in the FA Cup.

"We have won it more times than anyone else and we want to do it again.

"To win it back-to-back for the first time would just make it even better."
