Owen reaffirms Real happiness

Michael Owen is determined to stay and prove himself at Real Madrid.

Michael Owen has brushed off recent reports and insists he is determined to stay and prove himself at Real Madrid.

The England striker's future in Spain was again called into question last week after his admission in an interview that he would be prepared to move back to Liverpool.

Owen insists he is not thinking about a return to The Premiership and is currently enjoying life in the Spanish capital having earned himself a starting spot over the last couple of weeks.

The 25-year-old increased his stock by netting in Real's victory over arch rivals Barcelona last weekend and is focusing fully on establishing himself at Los Merengues.

"Now I am just thinking about Madrid," he told Marca.

"There are reports saying that I want to return (to England), but I have never thought about that.

"What I want to do now is win the confidence of everyone at Real Madrid. What other people think is not so important to me. My job is to convince Madrid, not everyone else."

Owen went on to admit that his goal against Barca last week was his happiest moment to date in a Real shirt.

"I believe I have had many good moments, but possibly the best was the game against Barcelona," he continued.

"I was proud to be a part of that team and participate in the victory over Barcelona.

"I am very happy in Madrid and I hope to keep playing and scoring goals.

"I did not come to Madrid to put anyone else on the substitutes' bench, I came for myself - for Owen.

"I don't believe I have any great secrets. Perhaps I don't have the skill of Ronaldo, the power of other forwards, but I guarantee goals in the teams I have played for. I have always scored goals."
