Ferdinand rethinks retirement
Les Ferdinand could delay his retirement plans should Reading get promoted.
Les Ferdinand says he could delay his retirement plans should he help Reading reach The Premiership. The 38-year-old striker was due to hang up his boots in the summer after signing on a six-month deal from Bolton in January.
However, with The Royals in the play-off places with just three games to go, Steve Coppell's side have a shot at promotion.
Ferdinand says that he may reconsider his retirement plans should he help Reading into The Premiership.
"I've got a contract until the end of the season and I aim to help the team into The Premiership," said Ferdinand.
"It would be a great way for me to end my career. And if they don't make it I may retire anyway.
"I discussed the matter with Teddy Sheringham, who's even older than me, and we both found that whenever you go on holiday you are soon itching to play again.
"But if I continue next season I'd need to feel I could be of service to the club, and they'd have to think of a suitable role for me."
