Derry baffled by dismissal

Leeds midfielder Shaun Derry is baffled as to why he saw red against QPR.

Leeds United midfielder Shaun Derry is baffled as to why he saw red in the club's 1-1 draw against QPR.

With Leeds leading 1-0 at Loftus Road, Derry was dismissed by referee Ray Olivier for apparently striking out at R's striker Kevin Gallen.

The former Crystal Palace man has protested his innocence and believes his good friend Gallen should put his hand in his pocket to help with his fine.

"The passage of play stopped. I was stood next to Kevin in front of the referee," explained Derry.

"I literally just put my hand up and caught his face. There was no intent and I think their players, combined with the bench, got me sent off.

"I felt the referee was a little bit swayed by that. I was shocked when he pulled out the red card.

"I've known Kevin for a number of years and there are no hard feelings for me. I'm just hoping he will pay half my fine!"
