Postma eyes Villa exit

Stefan Postma remains keen to quit Villa, despite the carrot of an improved deal.

Stefan Postma remains determined to quit Aston Villa, despite the carrot of an improved contract at the club.

The Dutch goalkeeper has been told he will be offered revised terms at Villa Park if he is prepared to stay on as back-up to Thomas Sorensen.

But Postma's agent Piet Buter revealed the 28-year-old is still frustrated at his failure to secure regular first team football with the Midlands side.

Postma has a year remaining on his present deal but is hoping to leave the club in the summer, having been put on the transfer list before Christmas.

Heerenveen were keen to sign the shot-stopper during the January transfer window but claimed they were priced out of a deal.

Villa's willingness to recoup some of the £1.5 million they paid to De Graafschap in 2002 is proving a stumbling block to a move, according to Buter.

Postma's representative admits there are several clubs chasing the keeper, with Buter confirming his client's desire is to leave the Premiership side.

"The club have said they will offer Stefan more money next year if he stayed as Thomas' deputy," said Buter.

"But we have explained to them that it is nothing to do with money. He wants the chance to play first team games now.

"There are four or five Dutch clubs interested in Stefan but he will be too expensive for them and there could be clubs in England as well.

"I am not sure what Villa will do about a fee because Stefan still has a year to go on his contract but I doubt if they would let him go for nothing."
