Waiting game for Zenden

Boudewijn Zenden says he is in no rush to commit himself to Middlesbrough.

Boudewijn Zenden says he is in no rush to commit himself to Middlesbrough.

The Dutchman's contract is up for renewal at the end of the season and it would appear as if the former Barcelona man is prepared to wait until the summer to assess his options.

"We've not sat down to discuss a new deal," said Zenden. "We will talk about it when the season ends, when I'm a free agent."

Zenden revived Boro's hopes of securing a place in next season's Uefa Cup when netting an injury time penalty in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Fulham and it would appear that securing a place in Europe is key to the 28-year-old's thinking on his future.

"It would be difficult to accept missing out on Europe, as we believe we're good enough," he added.

PSV Eindhoven are believed to be keen on bringing Zenden back to the Netherlands and although he is not keen on returning to his homeland at this stage, the prospect of another crack at the UEFA Champions League would certainly appeal to the Dutchman.

Middlesbrough youngster Dale Roberts has been handed a trial at Falkirk, after the keeper was informed his contract would not be renewed in the summer.
