Lamotte makes Munich move

Schalke defender Fabian Lamotte has agreed to join 1860 Munich in the summer.

Schalke defender Fabian Lamotte has agreed to join Bundesliga Zwei promotion chasers 1860 Munich in the summer.

The 22-year-old, who has been unable to hold down a regular first team place with the Royal Blues this season, has been handed a two-year deal by the Lions and will move on a free transfer.

Lamotte joined Schalke at the age of 15 and had worked his way up into Ralf Rangnick's squad, although saw his career stagnate as the more experienced trio of Marcelo Bordon, Mladen Krstajic and Tomasz Waldoch were preferred.

"We are delighted to have signed a young German player who has gained experience at one of the Bundesliga's top clubs," said 1860 chief executive Roland Kneissl.

"Fabian can play either on the right or in the centre of defence. He's quick, good in the air and has good positional sense."

The Lions, who were relegated last season, are hoping for a direct return to the German top-spot and are currently fourth in the second division, level on points with third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt.
