Walsh gets new deal

Veteran goalkeeper Gary Walsh is set to be offered a new contract by Wigan.

Veteran goalkeeper Gary Walsh will be offered a new contract by Wigan Athletic despite not starting a league game this season.

The former Middlesbrough shot-stopper has only started two games in the last two seasons due to the fine form of Australian keeper John Filan.

The 37-year-old joined The Latics in 2003 and the club believe having both Walsh and Filan in the squad next season will prove to be crucial.

"We're talking to Gary about staying as we need two experienced keepers in our squad, especially if we go up," said assistant boss Chris Hutchins.
