Robbo targets Uefa slot

Spurs keeper Paul Robinson is hopeful that the club can qualify for the Uefa Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur keeper Paul Robinson remains hopeful that the club can qualify for next season's Uefa Cup.

After losing 1-0 to bitter rivals Arsenal on Monday night, Spurs find themselves one point behind seventh placed Middlesbrough, and face both Steve McClaren's side and fellow challengers Aston Villa in their next two games.

Clinching European football will represent a significant achievement for the North London outfit after they endured a tough time when previous boss Jacques Santini left in November.

Martin Jol has since moulded an embryonic squad into an effective side, and his number one insists that they can drive on to secure their place in the continental competition.

"The important thing for us now is beating Aston Villa and Middlesbrough," said Robinson.

"They are also competing for a Uefa Cup place and if we can get there instead it will be a massive achievement."

Robinson's Spurs and England team-mate Ledley King also believes that the Uefa Cup spot is there to be won, and declared that the squad will have no need of extra motivation for the visit of Villa on May 1.

"It won't be difficult to lift ourselves against Villa,"said King.

"We're playing them at home, there are still points to play for and we'd love to get into Europe. The motivation is there."
