Eidur hits back at 'cheat' claims
Eidur Gudjohnsen claims he did not intentionally get Xabi Alonso booked.
Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen has defended his part in the booking that has left Liverpool without Xabi Alonso for their UEFA Champions League second leg.The Spaniard was shown the yellow card by referee Alain Sars for an innocuous challenge on the Chelsea man.
Liverpool's players thought that Gudjohnsen's theatrical fall got Alonso booked knowing he would miss the second leg.
It has also been suggested that the Icelandic striker taunted Alonso following his booking towards the end of Wednesday's match at Stamford Bridge.
The 26-year-old was however quick to defend any suggestions that he deliberately got the Liverpool midfielder booked.
"Sure, he [Alonso] is disappointed to have been shown the yellow card, but it was not my decision, it was the referee's decision," said Gudjohnsen.
"I would never try and get a fellow professional booked.
"It is not something I would seek to do and, believe me, I can understand his disappointment.
"It is a shame for him that he has to miss the next game, but Liverpool have to deal with it.
"It is one of those things," added the former Bolton man.
"I didn't think Joe Cole's booking was a foul either.
"If they want to appeal, I'm a Chelsea player. What can I do about it?"
