Parry saves Bluebirds

Cardiff secured their Championship status with a 1-1 draw at Gillingham.

Cardiff secured their Championship status with a 1-1 draw at Gillingham.

Paul Parry's late goal earned The Bluebirds the point to cancel out Matthew Jarvis' opener for the hosts.

Gillingham started well and Darius Henderson saw a header well saved by Neil Alexander.

Cameron Jerome looked lively for Cardiff and he forced Jason Brown into a couple of saves in the first half.

Substitute Darren Byfield missed a great chance to break the deadlock past the hour mark when he headed wide in front of goal.

Gillingham made the breakthrough on 71 minutes when Jarvis fired home an angled drive past Alexander.

Cardiff pushed forward in search of an equaliser and they were rewarded six minutes from time when Parry got his head on a Neil Ardley cross to send the ball past Brown.

The point and results elsewhere mean Cardiff are safe for another year, while Gillingham face a nervous final day clash away to already relegated Nottingham Forest to be sure of avoiding the drop into League One.
