Injury hell for Kell

Scunthorpe's bid for promotion has been soured by a broken leg for Richard Kell.

Scunthorpe United's bid for promotion has been soured by a broken leg suffered by Richard Kell.

The midfielder suffered the injury during Scunthorpe's 4-0 victory over Bristol Rovers at Glanford Park on Saturday.

The success kept The Iron on course for promotion from League Two as they sit second in the table with one game remaining.

Kell will now miss the final game at Shrewsbury this weekend and the play-offs should Scunthorpe fail to clinch automatic promotion.

He will also face a race to be fit for the start of next season with Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws left gutted by Kell's injury.

"In Richard Kell we have lost a very good player," said Laws.

"He's been excellent, inspirational and has never missed training since his last leg break.

"I am gutted, it has totally destroyed the day but we are going to do it for Richard.

"We will go [to Shrewsbury] to win the game. It's a tough place to go, not the best of pitches, and I have to get my head round that, but at the minute I can't think of anything but Richard Kell."
