Rafa rejects Guti rumours

Rafa Benitez has rejected reports linking Liverpool with Real Madrid's Guti.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has rejected reports suggesting they wanted to sign Real Madrid ace Guti in a swap deal for Steven Gerrard.

Reports in Spain suggested Real were lining up a big-money move for Gerrard in the summer and could have possibly included Guti as part of any deal.

Benitez has moved quickly to rubbish the speculation and insists he has no plans to lose Gerrard or sign Guti.

"The situation with Steven remains the same. He has two more years to run on his contract and we want him to stay," Benitez told the club's official website:

"I have read reports from Spain today that we will sell him to Madrid if they give us Guti.

"That is not true. Guti is a good player but we do not want him."

Guti himself has played down talk linking him with a move to England claiming he was happy to stay with Real.

The Spanish boss has also urged his players to forget about their midweek UEFA Champions League heroics and focus on trying to finish fourth and secure an automatic Champions League place for next season.

Liverpool meet Arsenal on Sunday before taking on Aston Villa in their final league game and they are currently three points behind Everton in the race for fourth place.

"I've told the players not to think abut the final until after our two league games," added Benitez.

"We must now concentrate on the league."
