Celtic consider Keane game

Celtic have been asked to play Manchester United in a testimonial for skipper Roy Keane.

The Republic of Ireland international is completing his 12th season at Old Trafford and his services are due to be rewarded with a testimonial match.

Although the United board have yet to formally grant Keane a testimonial, it is seen as only a formality, and the former Nottingham Forest man would love his match to be against The Bhoys.

Keane has often been linked with a move to Parkhead to end his career, but he has continued to excel in the heart of Sir Alex Ferguson's midfield despite his advancing years.

The 33-year-old has won seven league titles with United along with four FA Cups, and could lift the famous old trophy again in Cardiff should they get the better of old foes Arsenal.

Keane has become a living legend at United and would be guaranteed a full house at Old Trafford for his benefit game.

The only sticking point for his dream game could be with Celtic, who may not be able to meet the arranged date.

August 3 has been earmarked for the game, but should Rangers win the SPL Celtic would be involved in the second round of UEFA Champions League qualifying.
