Crouch named in England squad
Peter Crouch has been named in England's squad for their tour of America.
Southampton striker Peter Crouch has been named in England's squad for their forthcoming tour of America
It is the first time Crouch has been named in the full squad, after winning six caps at Under-21 level and it is reward for the recent form he has shown with the relegation threatened Saints.
Michael Carrick is recalled to the England squad for the first time since 2001, when he won his only two previous caps against Holland and Mexico.
Liverpool's Scott Carson is the other new name in the party and he is called-up as back-up to David James and Robert Green with Paul Robinson out through injury.
With a number of big names missing from the tour, which will see England take on the USA and Colombia at the end of this month, coach Sven Goran Eriksson is likely to use the two games to give a chance to some of the more inexperienced members of the party.
The likes of Jermain Defoe, Stewart Downing, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Alan Smith will all be hoping for the chance to impress with the 2006 World Cup just over 12 months away.
