QPR join Stewart race

QPR have joined Bristol City in the race to sign striker Marcus Stewart.

Queens Park Rangers have joined Bristol City in the race to sign striker Marcus Stewart.

The 32-year-old is looking for pastures new after being told he will not receive a new contract with Premiership-bound Sunderland for next season.

His availability has alerted The Robins into bringing him back to the West Country with the League One side.

However, QPR boss Ian Holloway is hoping to persuade the former Bristol Rovers, Huddersfield Town and Ipswich Town goalscorer to move to West London.

"I am sure Marcus will be attracted by the prospect of playing at a higher level," Holloway was quoted as saying on the Bristol City official website.

Ashton Gate player-manager Brian Tinnion, however, is hoping to bring Stewart back to the club he supported as a schoolboy.

"Marcus has indicated that he would like to join us and when a quality player does that, you have to be interested," Tinnion said.

"His scoring record in The Championship this season has been good and I hope we can persuade him to come here."

Another striker that is attracting interest among clubs in Scotland is Robins hit-man Lee Miller.

The former Falkirk man has rejuvenated his career while on loan at Hearts, having earned a call-up to Walter Smith's Scotland squad for next month.

The Jambos, however, look to be in a battle with fellow SPL side Aberdeen to land his services and the interest has prompted City chairman Steve Lansdown to stand firm on his valuation.

"Hopefully this news will send his fee into the stratosphere!" Lansdown told the Scottish Daily Mirror.

"He is on loan at Hearts and when that ends, he will come back at the end of the season.

"They have made several bids, but I have been consistent all along and there is now interest from Aberdeen, though at the moment, that is not at the level where we would like it to be."
