Roy resigned to Hudson exit

Roy McFarland is planning Chestefield's future without Mark Hudson.

The former Middlesbrough man is out of contract in the summer and has stalled on penning a new deal with The Spireites.

McFarland does not believe Hudson will stay at Saltergate and has already begun his search to fill the void soon to be left by the 24-year-old.

The Chesterfield boss has spoken to a number of targets but does not want to reveal their identities as they are contracted elsewhere.

"Mark Hudson wants to play for a bigger and better club and that's his choice," said McFarland to the club's official website.

"He won't commit to Chesterfield at the moment and we are not prepared to wait. So that's the situation and Mark Hudson will not be here next season.

"It was pretty obvious that come the end of the season he wants a free transfer and wants to try and better himself by moving to a bigger club.

"The important thing is for Chesterfield to move on. Mark Hudson leaves a big hole in the midfield and it's my job to try and fill that position.

"Currently the players I have spoken to are under contract to other clubs and it's my job to try and convince them that Chesterfield is the club to come to."
