Madrid fire Eto'o riposte
Real Madrid have hit back at Samuel Eto'o following Barca's title celebrations.
Real Madrid have hit back at Samuel Eto'o after the Barcelona striker was less than complimentary about the capital outfit following the Catalan club's capture of the title. In celebration of Primera success, the 24-year-old Cameroon international started an anti-Madrid chant infront of 100,000 Barca supporters during a title party at Camp Nou.
Eto'o only joined Barca in the summer having been part-owned by Madrid - with this latest incident having not gone down well at Real's headquarters.
''This character is a fantastic player, but he leaves a lot to be desired as a person,'' said the president of Real Madrid fan clubs Fermin Calero.
''He has forgotten that it was Real Madrid that first allowed him to escape hunger and with these unfortunate declarations the only thing he has done is to encourage violence.''
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has conceded that the incident was unfortunate and that the actions of his prolific hit man were difficult to justify.
''I don't think they were ill-intentioned and should be understood in the context that they took place, at a celebration party and in an atmosphere of unrestrained euphoria, but they are difficult to justify,'' admitted Laporta.
Meanwhile, whilst Madrid have indicated that they will not be passing comment on the incident, defender Francisco Pavon believes Eto'o's behaviour was altogether unnecessary.
''Maybe it was the heat of the moment, but I don't think you need to insult anybody when celebrating a title that Barcelona thoroughly deserved to win,'' said Pavon.
