Van Bommel joins Barca
PSV Eindhoven's Mark van Bommel has completed his move to Barcelona
PSV Eindhoven's Mark van Bommel has signed a deal with Catalan giants Barcelona. The Dutch midfielder has long been courted by big clubs in Europe, but finally made the decision to see out his contract and leave for the Spanish league this summer.
Barca, who sealed the Primera Liga title at the weekend, expect to unveil their latest signing after he reports back from international duty in June.
Van Bommel is considered one of the finest players in the Dutch Eredivisie, taking PSV to four league titles since joining the club in 1999.
Barcelona's longstanding Dutch collaboration means that van Bommel will join up with compatriot Giovanni van Bronckhorst to play under another in Frank Rijkaard.
The 28-year-old leaves PSV on a high, having taken the club to a convincing domestic triumph - with the club already crowned champions having opened up a 12-point gap to Ajax with a game remaining.
Barca confirmed that the midfielder had signed a three-year deal with them.
