Viola fume at penalty decision
Fiorentina were left fuming after being denied a penalty in their draw with Lazio.
Fiorentina have been left fuming after a clear penalty was turned down in their 1-1 draw with Lazio on Sunday.Viola were denied by a Luciano Zauri handball, and TV images indicated that the Lazio stopper should have been dismissed and a penalty awarded.
The failure to win leaves the Florentines two points adrift of safety with just one game to go in Serie A, and midfielder Angelo Di Livio was disappointed with the official's inability to spot the infringement.
"It's clear that we tried until the end to win, we only failed in not scoring," said Di Livio.
"But, you must excuse me if I underline it, there was a clear penalty for us with a red card for Zauli.
"We have been harassed for the whole season.
"Everyone saw what happened, there was a penalty for us and Lazio's player should have been sent off.
"Now? While there is hope we will play, as we did until now."
Viola coach Dino Zoff was left speechless following the incident, but will have to pick his players up in time for Sunday's game against Brescia after missing out on three points in the vital clash.
"I don't know what to say, a penalty like it hasn't been seen," said Zoff (pictured).
"This year is so, what can I say?
"I think the images aren't to be commented on, the images are clear.
"It could be the decisive moment of the match, today it was a decisive match."
