Takahara signs new HSV deal

Japanese international Naohiro Takahara has extended his contract at Hamburg.

Japanese international Naohiro Takahara has extended his contract at Bundesliga outfit Hamburg.

The 25-year-old forward agreed a new one-year deal on Tuesday which will keep him at the AOL Arena until June 2008.

"He has continued to develop ever since arriving here and has now become an important part of our team," said HSV sport director Dietmar Beiersdorfer.

Takahara, who joined the Rothosen from Jubilo Iwata in January 2003, expressed his delight at his new deal.

The striker said: "I really feel at home here in Hamburg and so it wasn't a difficult decision to make.

"I have the feeling that both the club and the team are heading in the right direction."

Takahara has been a first-team regular since current boss Thomas Doll succeeded Klaus Toppmoller in October, netting seven Bundesliga goals for the North German team this season.
