Van der Vaart injury scare
Rafael van der Vaart hopes an ankle injury will not rule him out of Holland's qualifiers.
Rafael van der Vaart is hoping an ankle injury will not rule him out of Holland's upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The Ajax ace, who hopes to join Hamburg in the summer, picked up the problem after a training ground incident with Mario Melchiot.
Van der Vaart suffered a kick to the ankle which has been bothering him in recent weeks and he had to sit out the closing part of the session.
The gifted playmaker hopes the injury is not too serious and he will be able to take his place in Marco van Basten's plans for next Saturday's clash with Romania and the game with Finland four days later.
"I hope to be fit in a couple of days," said van der Vaart.
"It is the same place where I suffered my injury a few weeks ago, only now it feels a bit better."
In addition to van der Vaart's injury, Oranje coach van Basten also has question marks over Arjen Robben, Khalid Boulahrouz and Wesley Sneijder, who are all carrying minor knocks.
