The Golden Boot
The European Golden Boot accolade has been shared this year.
The European Golden Boot accolade has been shared by Arsenal's Thierry Henry and Villarreal's Diego Forlan, both of whom scored 25 league goals this season.
However, having a top goalscorer in your squad does not guarantee success.
None of the teams that claimed Europe's four most prestigious domestic league championships had the league's top scorer within their squad.
There have been some impressive displays by players who have found themselves at the wrong end of the table this term.
Andrew Johnson (Crystal Palace), Alberto Gilardino (Parma) and Marek Mintal (Nurnberg) all played for clubs who finished below halfway in the standings, but ended the season amongst the top two scorers in their respective leagues.
Only Spain's list of top scorers bares any resemblance to their league table. The top four goalscorers in Serie A is also notable for being an all-Italian list, with each of the forwards reaching the 20-goal mark.
