Real cool Joaquin interest

Real Madrid have reportedly shelved plans to move for Real Betis star Joaquin.

Real Madrid have reportedly shelved plans to move for Real Betis star Joaquin this summer.

Los Merengues have long been tipped to make a swoop for the Spain international who is something of a personal objective for president Florentino Perez.

However, it appears that coach Wanderley Luxemburgo does not see him as an essential purchase and will look to bring in other players.

The Brazilian is apparently more interested in striking deals for compatriots Robinho and Adriano.

The fact Betis have qualified for next season's UEFA Champions League is also a stumbling block as they are likely to want to retain the player's services, or demand an increased transfer fee to let him move on.

While that seems to have played a part in dulling Real's interest, it is unlikely to deter Chelsea - another of the wideman's admirers.

The Blues have also been monitoring the 23-year-old for some time and could yet move for him this summer with Jose Mourinho confirming he is keen to bring in three recruits during the close season.
