Zaragoza, who have crippling financial problems, are now ready to sell and are reported to have quoted Atletico a price of ‚é¼4 million for the 25-year-old who is a full Argentina international.
President Alfonso Solans is resigned to losing the player and will not comtemplate the possibility of missing out on a transfer fee.
"It's clear that the player won't sign a new contract," stated Solans.
"He has one year left on his contract and you have to think about the decision to take.
"It would be absurd, just for one year of work at the club, to lose the chance of a transfer fee now.
"It is not an objective, but if you see that a player is going to leave, it's better he's leaves a bit earlier and you get some sort of compensation in a transfer fee."
