Kahn wants Confed Cup glory

Oliver Kahn wants Germany to win the Confederations Cup.

Germany keeper Oliver Kahn has urged his team-mates to boost their World Cup preparations by lifting the Confederations Cup.

The competition is set to be opened in Group A by Argentina facing Tunisia on Wednesday, before Germany enters the tournament when they take on Australia.

Group B action begins on Thursday with Japan challenging Mexico and World Cup winners Brazil meeting Euro 2004 winners Greece.

"Our team should always have the aim to win such a tournament and it would be an important signal to everyone that we have reached a very, very high level," declared the Bayern Munich shot-stopper.

"We are all keen to prove ourselves, but if we should fail the world won't collapse and there would still be plenty of time to analyse and sort things out before the World Cup 2006."

Germany, beaten World Cup 2002 finalists, replaced Rudi Voller with Jurgen Klinsmann following their disappointing first round exit in Portugal last summer and after a couple of promising results in friendlies, the former Tottenham striker now faces his first real test as his team challenge the likes of Argentina and Brazil.

"Plenty of prestige is at stake and all teams seem to take the tournament very serious as they have brought their best players to Germany," claimed Klinsmann.

"If we want to use our home-advantage we must play offensive and with plenty of self-confidence and then we will be back among the big guns.

"We regained the respect of the big football nations in the past months and it's important to keep this respect with regard to the World Cup."
