Schulz blow for Germany

Christian Schulz has been forced to withdraw from Germany's squad.

Werder Bremen left-back Christian Schulz has been forced to withdraw from Germany's Confederations Cup squad with a shin bone problem.

The 23-year-old, who has won three caps for his country, had been plagued by the problem for several weeks, but a recent medical check-up revealed that an inflammation had turned the injury from bad to worse.

While Schulz has already left the Germany squad in order to return home, coach Jurgen Klinsmann refused to call up an additional player.

‚Ç£We didn't want to take any player away from the Under-20 team as the young players are set to gain more match practise at the current World Cup in the Netherlands than with us, while other players are on holidays and would not have the necessary fitness for the tournament,‚Ç¥ said Klinsmann.

The former Tottenham striker is already forced to do without regular left-back Philipp Lahm and deputy Christian Pander - who have both torn cruciate ligaments - and must now keep faith in midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger out of position.
