Guti gunning for England
Real Madrid star Guti admits he is eyeing a summer switch to The Premiership.
Real Madrid star Jose Mari Guti admits he is eyeing a summer switch to England after conceding that he has no future at the Bernabeu. The ever-popular midfielder has again been frustrated on the sidelines over the course of the past nine months, with both Thomas Gravesen and David Beckham restricting his chances of a start in the centre of midfield.
Whilst Guti enjoys a special bond with Los Merengues after progressing through the club's youth system, his spell with the nine-time European Cup winners could be drawing to a close after finally losing patience with his marginal role.
The 28-year-old holds a particular regard for The Premiership, and, with rumoured interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, Guti admits that he would be keen to move to England if the transfer found favour with the Bernabeu hierarchy.
"I have a contract with Madrid until 2008 but it is true that I hope to start a new period in my career and open the way in another team," said Guti.
"I also feel I could play in another league.
"There is nothing concrete at the moment, but I have always said that if I left Madrid, I would like to play in England.
"The English league is ideal and I would be willing to go if the move benefited the club."
As well as the Premiership pair Serie A sides Milan and Juventus have also been linked with the Spanish international, and Guti conceded that he was flattered by the level of interest shown in him from across Europe.
After speaking to Real chiefs the player appears to be preparing for an exit to one of the continent's most prestigious sides.
"I am proud that clubs like that, all of them big clubs, could be thinking about me," Guti enthused.
"They have great squads and coaches and are capable of doing important things. It would be very interesting to play for any of them.
"I have spoken to (Emilio) Butragueno and (Arrigo) Sacchi, they know how I feel and what I want and know we have to look for a solution that is for the good of all of us."
