Greek tragedy at Rangers

Sotirios Kyrgiakos' agent has confirmed his client will not be returning to Rangers.

The agent of Sotirios Kyrgiakos has confirmed his client will not be returning to Rangers despite his desire to remain at Ibrox.

Phanis Klonopoulos was instructed by Greek giants Panathinaikos to find a new club for the 25-year-old - in an arrangement that initially took Kyrgiakos to Rangers in a loan deal.

The international defender, who is also reportedly a target of Bolton, has now seen his dream move scuppered as Rangers have failed to concur on a deal with his parent club.

Panathinaikos are believed to have exercised an option to keep hold of the player for another year but in all likelihood it appears they will still cash in before the commencement of the new campaign.

"Discussions are over. Sotirios will probably be re-sold to another club,'' Klonopoulos told the Daily Record.

''He will not be returning to Rangers.

"Sam Allardyce wants to take him to Bolton but Sotirios will have more than one option.

"We have come to realise Rangers do not want him and this is a surprise.

"Sotirios did a good job for Rangers and did not want to leave. He does not understand what the problem is."
