Viola play down Frey link

Fiorentina have played down reports linking them with Parma's Sebastian Frey.

Fiorentina have played down reports linking them with Parma's Sebastian Frey.

Frey has confirmed he will be leaving Parma in the summer after helping them avoid relegation from Serie A.

The Frenchman has been strongly linked with a move to Fiorentina for some time, with Parma boss Cesare Prandelli taking charge at the Artemio Franchi, and the player admitting he would be interested in a move to the club.

Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino believes Frey is too expensive for them to buy.

"Frey costs too much," said Corvino.

"About ‚é¼7 million for two years is really too much. We must continue on other targets."

The Viola are believed to be keen on Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati and Udinese shot-stopper Morgan De Sanctis, with Abbiati thought to be favourite because of his desire to play regularly.
