Rankine agrees Rovers stay
Tranmere Rovers midfielder Mark Rankine has agreed terms on a new contract.
Tranmere Rovers midfielder Mark Rankine has agreed terms on a new contract with the League One club. The former Preston North End and Sheffield United player joined the Wirral-based club on a one-year deal last summer after being released by The Blades.
The 35-year-old went on to make 48 starts for Rovers last season, helping the Merseyside outfit to the League One play-offs.
Rankine had been considering the idea of hanging up his boots, but the midfielder has decided to commit to another campaign with Brian Little's side.
"In principle, I've agreed to stay on for another year and I've sent them notification," Rankine said.
"It was just a case of taking a bit of time to see what I wanted to do after the disappointment of the play-offs and a number of people I talked to said it would be stupid to retire if I can continue.
"You can't keep on going on and on and there will be a time when my body won't be able to do what I'd like it to do, but at the moment, I feel all right."
