Davidson link a hoax

Graham Roberts says he was tricked into thinking he could sign Callum Davidson.

Clyde manager Graham Roberts has revealed he was tricked into thinking he could sign Preston defender Callum Davidson.

The Scotland international, who just missed out on promotion with North End when they were defeated in the Play-Off final by West Ham, would have been a sensational signing for the Scottish Division One club.

Roberts held open trials at Broadwood this week and some media outlets reported that Davidson could become a shock capture.

"If people want to muck us about, that's up to them," complained Roberts to Sky Sports News.

"Somebody's rung up and said he was Callum Davidson and could I contact him, which I did on Monday morning, and it was a young kid of 16 years old."

Ambitious boss Roberts is also keen to recruit former Rangers stars Paul Gascoigne and Arthur Numan.

"Paul would be a fantastic addition to what we're doing," he added. "We want him to come as player-coach.

"Arthur's retired and says he won't come back but I'm going to bend his ear."

One player who did attend the trial was Slovakian keeper Marian Cerny.
