Worthy pursuing Parkin

Norwich boss Nigel Worthington has admitted his interest in Sam Parkin.

Norwich boss Nigel Worthington has admitted he is interested in Swindon star Sam Parkin.

The striker had another prolific season for The Robins as he scored 24 goals in League One, and is expected to depart The County Ground in the summer with a host of Championship sides vying for his signature.

Watford and Crewe have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old, although Brighton chairman Dick Knight recently hinted that The Canaries were pursuing Parkin as he withdrew his own club's interest.

Norwich are looking to bounce straight back up to The Premiership after suffering relegation heart-break on the last day of the season, and could have to fend off further interest from rivals Ipswich if they are to partner Dean Ashton with the prolific Parkin.

Canaries boss Nigel Worthington confirmed Knight's revelations and stated that he was monitoring the ongoing saga surrounding Parkin's position at Swindon.

"Yes we have got an interest in the situation and yes we are monitoring its progress," Worthington told the club's official website.

In other news Norwich midfielder Youssef Safri has undergone an operation for a hernia problem and should be fit to join in the start of the club's pre-season training schedule.

The Moroccan international aggravated the long term problem in his country's 4-1 win over Malawi on June 4, although Worthington confirmed that he now did not expect the injury to resurface.

"He's had this little niggle that's been something of an ongoing problem," said Worthington.

"So he's had a little operation just to tidy things up and, hopefully, that'll put it to bed once and for all."
