Forster the first for Town
Nicky Forster has joined Ipswich Town on a two-year contract from Reading.
Ipswich Town have started their summer transfer programme by completing a deal for Reading striker Nicky Forster. The experienced front man has signed a two-year contract at Portman Road after opting to sever his ties with Reading.
Forster spent six years with The Royals, scoring 67 goals, but has been leaning towards an exit for several months.
A move to Wigan Athletic before the spring transfer deadline failed to be completed, while he had also been linked with Sheffield United.
But Ipswich boss Joe Royle moved for the 31-year-old after seeing his attacking options depleted since the end of the season.
Darren Bent has joined Charlton Athletic, while Shefki Kuqi is leaving the club on a free transfer, and Kelvin Davis and Tommy Miller have both joined Sunderland.
Town chairman David Sheepshanks was delighted to unveil Forster and confirmed he is expected to be the first of a batch of new arrivals.
"We welcome Nicky Forster to Portman Road and hope he will have a thoroughly successful time here," Sheepshanks told the club's official website.
"Joe Royle was extremely keen to secure him as an experienced and wily striker who can add an extra dimension to our team.
"Nicky is the first of a number of signings that we hope to confirm over the coming days and weeks."
Swindon Town hot shot Sam Parkin is a top target for Royle, with the Championship club having been given permission to speak to the striker.
