Celtic chase Skacel

Celtic are on the trail of Czech Republic international Rudolf Skacel.

Celtic are on the trail of Czech Republic international Rudolf Skacel, who is set to leave Marseille.

Skacel has failed to establish himself as Stade Velodrome since joining two years ago from Slavia Prague and spent last season on loan at Panathinaikos.

The midfielder is likely to be offloaded during the summer and several clubs are understood to be tracking his services.

Scottish giants Celtic are among his suitors, along with Wolfsburg and other German outfits, with Skacel's agent Pavel Zika awaiting developments.

"We have mainly agreed with l'OM management on the terms at which Rudolf is released and that, in his case, is the most important thing," Zika told MF Dnes.

Skacel has already rejected a return to Slavia and the 25-year-old is looking to play for a club outside of his homeland.

"I would like somewhere to establish myself for a longer time," said Skacel.

"I thanked him (Sparta coach Jaroslav Hrebik) for the interest but I said to him that actually we have nothing to talk about.

"I don't want to move to Sparta. To go back to Czech Republic? Surely no! Maybe in two or three years but not now."
