Shrews sign Stallard

Shrewsbury Town have boosted their attack with signing of striker Mark Stallard.

Shrewsbury Town boss Gary Peters has boosted his attack with signing of striker Mark Stallard.

The 30-year-old joins the Shropshire outfit on a two-year deal after being released by League One club Barnsley last month.

The former Wycombe Wanderers hit-man finished last season on loan at former club Notts County, with The Magpies thought to have been interested in re-signing Stallard at Meadow Lane.

However, Stallard has decided on a move to Gay Meadow, having played on-loan for Peters before when he was in charge at Preston North End.

"He's a good target man, he can score goals and will be a good signing," Peters told the club's official website.

"It's a signing we've managed to keep under the radar, I know the supporters seem to be doing a lot of guessing and there are bits on websites announcing things, but this is one that hasn't sneaked out."

Stallard's arrival at The Shrews could be followed by another new striker in the form of Huddersfield Town youngster Nat Brown.

The 24-year-old, who has a year left on his contract with The Terriers, has been in talks with Peters regarding a move.

Terriers boss Peter Jackson believes Brown needs a club that can offer him more first team football.

"He did well in our promotion season and has been excellent when called upon, but he only made a handful of starts for me last season and I feel that at his age, he should be getting a regular first team place," Jackson told Huddersfield's official website.
