Tribunal may set Akinfenwa fee

A tribunal will set the fee for the transfer of Adebayo Akinfenwa.

The Chairmen of Torquay United and Swansea City will hold one more meeting to attempt to avoid the involvement of a tribunal in Adebayo Akinfenwa's imminent transfer to Swansea City.

The player and club have come to an agreement after Swansea reignited their interest in Akinfenwa. Swansea had initially cooled their interest due to being reluctant to pay any type of a fee, but it now appears that they are prepared to risk the verdict of a tribunal.

If a third party is required to settle the matter, Torquay Coach Leroy Rosenior is hopeful that his club's efforts in nurturing the player are rewarded. Rosenior told the Torquay website:

"I hope that the tribunal will find in our favour in terms of the amount of compensation. Small clubs like Torquay United need transfer income to keep afloat and I trust that they will take into account the work we have put into making him into the goalscorer that he became."

Torquay Chairman Mike Bateson had expressed his frustration with the situation, saying: "Swansea have not made any offer and I am frankly disappointed that they should choose this route. My understanding of the system is that the matter will be dealt with by the tribunal only when normal negotiations have failed to come up with an agreement."

However, it now appears that there will be one final attempt to solve the issue, with Bateson anticipating renewed talks with Swansea counterpart Huw Jenkins over a transfer fee for 15 goal Akinfenwa.

Bateson told the Gulls' official website: "We have agreed to talk on Monday in an attempt to reach an agreement before needing the use of a tribunal."

If no agreement is reached, the date of the hearing is expected to be set with the next three weeks.
