Skysports.com understand Efstathios Tavlaridis has told Lille he wants to leave to join Rangers.Rangers are very keen on signing the Greek defender and have already had two bids rejected for him.
Lille are determined to keep hold of the former Arsenal defender as he has proved to be a massive success at the club since his arrival from Highbury.
Tavlaridis enjoyed a fine season at Lille helping them qualify for the UEFA Champions League and his form saw him win a call-up to the Greek national team.
His performances have attracted the interest of Rangers boss Alex McLeish and he is keen to bring him in to bolster his defence.
Tavlaridis has three years still to run on his deal at Lille, but it is understood he is seeking a move to Ibrox.
Skysports.com understand Tavlaridis has a verbal agreement meaning he could move on again in 2005 if his club manage to make a substantial profit on his transfer.
It is also understood that Tavlaridis has held a meeting with Lille president Michel Seydoux to discuss his future.
At the meeting it is thought Tavlaridis informed the club he would like to move and join Rangers if both clubs can agree a fee and hopes that a deal can be arranged.
Seydoux has revealed he has turned down a second bid from Rangers for the player and is hoping to keep him at last season's surprise package in Ligue 1.
"We hope there is no chance of him going to Rangers," Seydoux Scottish Daily Mail.
"I have spoken with them this week. We have again told them we do not want to sell the player and we want him to be part of our team in the Champions League.
"I didn't expect to hear from Rangers again as the player is not on the market."
