Milan land Vieri
Italy international striker Christian Vieri has made a shock move to Milan.
Italy international striker Christian Vieri has made a shock move from Internazionale to city rivals Milan. The powerful forward was available on a free transfer, having been freed by Inter this week, and Milan have beaten off competition from a clutch of clubs to secure his services.
Newcastle United failed with a bid to bring him to St James' Park, while reports linked the striker with a switch to Spain.
However, he has opted to remain at the San Siro after signing a two-year deal with the Rossoneri.
Vieri's free transfer arrival at Milan casts doubt over Hernan Crespo's future at the club.
The Argentine had a fine loan spell in Serie A last term and is desperate to turn his move from Chelsea into a permanent arrangement.
However, the two clubs have yet to agree a deal and the capture of Vieri could see Milan end their pursuit of Crespo.
Milan official Ariedo Braida has told Gazzetta.it that the capture of Vieri was not straightforward.
"It's complicated explaining how we signed Vieri," said Braida. "It is fair to say there is a reciprocal satisfaction for this agreement."
