Blundell joins Chester
Chester City have signed Doncaster Rovers striker Gregg Blundell on a two-year deal.
Chester City have finally completed the signing of striker Gregg Blundell from Doncaster Rovers. The 27-year-old has signed a two-year deal with The Blues after moving for an undisclosed six-figure fee from Belle Vue.
Though both clubs did not divulge the amount of the transfer fee, it is thought Chester have paid a club record amount of £105,000 for the former Tranmere Rovers and Northwich Victoria hit-man.
Blundell, who attracted the interest of League Two sides Carlisle United and Peterborough United, initially stalled on a move to The Saunders Honda Stadium after failing to agree personal terms.
Chester, however, came back to Blundell with an improved offer and the striker has now accepted the terms to join Keith Curle's side.
Despite selling one of his strikers, Donny boss Dave Penney believes the deal for Blundell is good for his club.
"We thought it was a good bit of business to get a good price with one year of Gregg's contract left," Penney told Doncaster's official website.
"It will be easier for him to be nearer home."
Curle's search for new faces has seen him take former Coventry City striker Avun Jephcott on trial.
Jephcott scored in Chester's equaliser against Stoke City in a pre-season friendly on Monday.
