Hatters refute Vine reports

Luton supremo Bill Tomlins has denied that Rowan Vine has failed a medical.

Luton Town chairman Bill Tomlins has told skysports.com that he expects to complete the signing of Rowan Vine, denying reports that the Portsmouth man had failed his medical.

The 22-year-old played a key role as The Hatters marched to the League One title last season, and has agreed terms on a permanent deal after his successful loan spell from Pompey.

Reports on Thursday had suggested that the six-figure deal had fallen through due to the forward suffering a back problem, although Tomlins has now refuted these claims.

Whilst the Bedfordshire side are taking a close look at the injury, Tomlins is confident that following a positive medical outcome Vine should tie up the loose ends of the deal in due course.

"No, it's not true [that he failed a medical], we are still very hopeful that by the end of next week the reports back from our medical people, which you always do of course, will give us the comfort to sign Rowan," Tomlins told skysports.com.

"Mike Newell is very committed to purchasing him on the agreement we did with Portsmouth and we have already agreed terms with Rowan.

"We are waiting for some of the reports back from their specialists, and I understand all the scans were fine and we are hoping to have contact with Portsmouth and move forward.

"We've offered him a three-year contract so we just want to be 110 percent certain that what we've been told is okay, at the moment we are very confident and hope we can rubber-stamp the situation and Mike is keen to have Rowan here."

Tomlins also revealed that the Championship new boys were seriously considering signing Paul Dalglish on a free transfer - although the former Newcastle man must still prove his fitness.

The striker is currently with the rest of the squad in Bulgaria as Luton prepare to take on CSKA Sofia, and the Hatters supremo indicated that a deal may be forthcoming for the player who has been out of football for over 12 months.

"Paul's been training with us and he's gone over to Bulgaria," Tomlins continued.

"Mike is obviously looking at his level of fitness and he is certainly a serious consideration otherwise he wouldn't be travelling with the squad to Sofia."
