Dons eye strikers
Aberdeen have handed a trial to Senegal striker Noel Mendy.
Aberdeen have handed a trial to Senegal striker Noel Mendy.Mendy plied his trade with Marila Pribram in the Czech Republic last season, but he is now hoping to earn a deal at Pittodrie.
"I got a tip the boy was available and he had done well during his time in Czech football last season," explained Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood (pictured).
"Everyone knows that is a good standard and while we have a few irons in the fire in terms of strikers now, there is nothing to lose by having a look at him.
"Noel, who holds a French passport, travelled up by train from Paris to join us in Holland and he certainly looks as though he has got the right physique for the role."
Calderwood is also hoping to land Polish trialist Piotr Wlodarczyk and Celtic's Shaun Maloney - the latter on a season long loan.
"Wlodarczyk impressed in his two trial matches and we now have to determine if we can do a suitable deal with his club," he said.
"If we can get some agreement with Legia Warsaw then I would hope he would rejoin us in Holland in a few days time.
"Willie Miller is dealing with the Maloney situation back in Scotland. I think it will be next week before we get a decision from Celtic."
